IEP Terms
IEPs may sometimes include terms and acronyms you may not be familiar with. Two terms that are essential to know are "Accommodations" and "Modifications".

Accommodations: “HOW” your child is learning. Children can learn the same material and meet the same expectations as their peers, but will have changes to or in their learning environment. Example classroom accommodations: sitting in the front of the class, listening to audio recordings instead of reading text, having a lesson recorded instead of taking notes. Accommodations can be created for assessments as well.
Modification: A modification is a change in what your child is expected to learn and demonstrate. Students who have modifications are not expected to meet the same expectations as their peers. Example modifications can be: shorter and easier reading assignments, covering less material in a test, or an alternative test.
